Frida Hyvönen's new album "
Silence is Wild" is a collection of clever and, at times, moving songs for (mostly) piano and voice. Released on the
Secretly Canadian label last month, and produced by Jari Haapalainen of
The Bear Quartet, the album manages to retain a level of intimacy whilst expanding from time to time to encompass lush strings, choir and synths.
The Acorn produce an original brand of experimental, popular folk music that attemps to blend modern and traditional forms. Their 2007 album "
Glory Hope Mountain" represents the band's most accomplished songwriting to date, with dense but airy acoustic textures backing lush harmonies and strong vocal storytelling.
