Atlanta-born avant punk outfit
Deerhunter's genesis can be traced back to Bradford Cox and Lockett Pundt's high school days. Over the years, drummer Moses Archuleta, bassist Josh Fauver and guitarist Colin Mee (now replaced by Whitney Petty) were all recruited and the band released their first, untitled album in 2005. However, it wasn't until the critical success of their second album "Cryptograms" that the band began to flower - fraught with technical, financial and personal problems, the record was finally dragged kicking and screaming into life over two cathartic sessions.
In mid-2008, Deerhunter and Kranky signed a deal with
4AD (
The Breeders,
Cocteau Twins,
Pixies,
TV On The Radio), to allow them to finally release music outside the US and the band's next move was to prove epic in more than just musical terms. The current tour coincides with the release of the new EP,
Rainwater Cassette Exchange.
Supporting tonight will be Calgary band Women.
