Ike Morgan

Ike Morgan’s paintings are furiously but meticulously painted. Mona Lisa and George Washington are two of Ike’s preferred subjects and have become “iconic” within his own body of work. The paintings selected for this show are indicative of the artist’s unique and highly repetitive processes and trace the figure’s evolving character over a period of several years.

Ike is based in Austin State Hospital, where Morgan was hospitalised in the late 70s after being diagnosed with chronic schizophrenia. He has spent the past 20 years working incessantly on hauntingly vibrant paintings and drawings using conventional media such as pastels, inks, oil and acrylic paints on paper, cardboard, or raw canvas.
