Another day of fine jazz and world music in the sun (hopefully!)
Ablaye Mbaye was born blind in Dakar in a family of "griots", traditional singers bringing sense and spirituality to a village's life. From these beginnings he has forged a significant career, touring with
Youssou Ndour as a back-up singer and most recently earning the status of "gold album seller" (100,000 copies).
We move inland for our next act
Cheick-Tidiane Seck - keyboardist, composer, and performer of popular and traditional Malian music. Seck possesses a rich and undeniably interesting history, filled with a diverse range of musical encounters with such artists as
Salif Keita,
Mory Kante,
Fela Kuti,
Youssou NDour,
Hank Jones,
Carlos Santana,
Joe Zawinul, and a host of others.
