Palestine : La Création Dans Tous Ses Etats

Written 02 February

Sunday 28 June, 10:00
Institut du Monde Arabe, 75005 [map]

L’IMA presents an ambitious panorama of Palestinian culture and arts. The exhibition differs from that of past years in gender and generational differences, as well as in techniques used by contemporary Palestinian creators. An important difference is the presence of female artists (Jumana Abboud, Rana Bishara, Rula Halawani, Mona Hatoum, Sandi Hilal, Noel Jabbour, Raeda Saadeh) which attests to a positive change in Palestinian society.

The works of the old masters (Kamal Boullata, Samia Halaby, Suha Shoman), side by side with newer work (Fawzy Emrany, Mohammed Al-Hawajri, Steve Sabella, Hany Zurob), allows for a change in perspective and highlights the diversity in techniques. There is also work by several video artists (Emily Jacir, Taysir Batniji, Larissa Sansour, Sherif Waked Khalil Rabah) looking at trace, displacement and memory in turbulent times.
