CONCERT

Matt Elliott

Written 08 December

Thursday 11 December, 00:00
Point Ephémère, 75010 [map]
Matt Elliott / Thee, Stranded Horse

Native Bristolian and founder of The Third Eye Foundation Matt Elliott's musical history is a colourful thing, full of names you know and others you ought to. Stepping out on the right foot from age 16, Elliott landed a job at Revolver Records (other employees include Daddy G, Dave Pearce, Debbie Manning...) and rapidly became involved in the scene. Initially releasing via his own label project Linda's Strange Vacation, then later for Domino and recently for Ici D'ailleurs, Elliott's output spans bleak soundscapes, sample-based skittering beats, cinematic tonal washes and dark, faux-european folk ballads. Recent projects "Failing Songs" and "Howling Songs" bring the latter style to the fore, with lonely, sombre themes weaving through bleak canvases of violin, guitar, mandolin and percussion.

Support act Thee, Stranded Horse is the solo project of Yann Tambour (of Encre fame). Though his accomplished Kora playing is still key to the sound, more song based structures have been adopted on his 2007 album on Blank Tapes, "Churning Strides". Powerful stuff.
