TALKCONCERT

Hommage à Elliott Carter

Written 30 January

Thursday 11 December, 00:00
Ircam, salle Igor-Stravinsky, 75004 [map]

Born in 1908 in NYC, composer Elliott Carter has earnt a well deserved genius-whilst-alive status for his atonal, rhythmically complex music. From neo-classical roots, his output over the last sixty years is largely responsible for the development of Musical Set Theory, and his student have included David Schiff, Alvin Curran and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich.

To mark Carter's 100th birthday, this event aims to "create a space for thought and meditation" on the composer's musical vocabulary, the performance of his music, his influences and his writing. Carter specialists such as Andrew Mead (University of Michigan) and Jonathan Bernard (University of Washington) will be present.
