Brownswood label. The big names on the bill this evening are US crooner
Jose James, and Japanese dancefloor jazz phenomenon Soil & Pimp Sessions. James has been compared to
Gil Scott Heron,
Frank Sinatra, Andy Bay and
Terry Callier, and his new album, due to appear on Brownswood in September, is generating a significant buzz. Soil & Pimp Sessions push live jazz to the limit while still retaining danceability and heavy funk - they too have new album coming, and if it's anything like their awesome 2008 record "
Planet Pimp", it'll be something to get excited about.
