William Castle

Producer and director of low budget B-movies. At the end of the 50s William Castle specialised in horror films and created inventive variations of films including Hitchcock’s Psycho. The retrospective is showing until 2nd August.

Castle was famous for directing films with many gimmicks which were ambitiously promoted. In Macabre (1958) a certificate for a $1,000 life insurance policy from Lloyd's of London was given to each customer in case he/she should die of fright during the film. Showings also had fake nurses stationed in the lobbies and hearses parked outside the cinema.

Plot: A doctor's kidnapped daughter has been buried alive. The doctor must race against the clock to find her before it's too late.
