Independent photographer Franck Thibault has made his camera his best travelling companion. After studying photography in London he accompanied AICF to Mali, Handicap International to India, Sag in Chile and by a chance encounter stopped at an Ayurvedic clinic in Kerala. In January 2009 his last trip led him to Egypt to meet with women and men who have benefited from micro finance- small loans lent by institutions specialising in helping the poor, women, and small business entrepreneurs who are deprived of traditional financial establishments’ services in order for them to form and launch or develop a small artistic enterprise or business and to confront the hazards of the economic climate.

It is difficult to measure the impact of micro finance on development and the fight against poverty. However, in Egypt, where inequality is rife and young people have difficulty establishing themselves, micro finance offers a breath of fresh air to men and women who want to escape this situation. Not sure as to whether they will find fortune but gaining in hope and pride and self confidence…
