Gardar EIDE EINARSSON

For his first exhibition at Bugada & Cargnel gallery, Norwegian artist living in New York City, Gardar Eide Einarsson, presents a set of new pieces – paintings, photographs and sculpture – through which he explores, in a wry and minimalist way, society's dubious underbelly.

Whether he is transferring book covers into large black and white paintings from literature, themselves taking after post-war abstract painting, or enlarging unexpectedly conceptual pictures taken from police instruction leaflets, or reproducing portraits of petty criminals published in newspapers and verging on modernism, or recreating a home-made barbecue grill from the American South, Eide Einarsson revisits a fascinating iconography, whilst questioning his own fascination.
