Il y a

Written 30 January

Église Saint-Eustache, 75001 [map]
Jacques Lenot

Suspending an orchestra of 84 virtual musicians from the heights of the Église Saint-Eustache, and setting off clockwork surrounded by the numerous peels of bells is the ambitious project for the first electro-acoustic project by Jacques Lenot at IRCAM.
The inspiration for Il y a comes from Rilke, Jérémie, and Levinas. The idea of a sonorous dust haze came about, according to the composer, “after the strange feeling experienced upon the discovery of the Prenzlauerberg cemetery (Jüdischer Friedhof) in Berlin, set between the Schönhauser Allee and the Kollwitzplatz in August 2005". The installation will be open to visitors at the church for 9 days prior to the "symphonic" work in four movements that will be presented in its entirety on September 29 at 9pm.

Sound installation: daily at 11:30am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 4:30pm, and 5:30pm (7 minutes)
