Forward thinking experimental rockers
The Fiery Furnaces have been dodging expectations for almost a decade. The sibling combo of Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger released their first album on
Rough Trade in 2003, to critical acclaim. The album is intricately designed, both lyrically and musically, but the band made a radical departure from this craftiness with their follow up the next year, "Blueberry Boat" - a collection of epic theatrical songs which wowed and confused critics in equal measure.
The bands latest work "I'm Going Away" appeared last year on
Thrill Jockey, and has been widely accepted as the latest step in a process of compositional simplification and refinement.
