Futurism was among the first avant-garde movements in Europe to recognize in modernity a regime of the spectacle and of the image. Its obsession with speed and movement made the moving image of film seem like the ideal futurist medium. A formal approach was taken towards documentary which was considered a recording instrument for the modern world. Despite the strong affinity between futurism and cinema, however, very few futurist films were actually made. This evening presents a collection of documentaries from the futurist movement.
