Unwed Sailor and Cats in Paris

High Places' many-layered compositions are born from a blending of opposites to form intensely detailed songs. The combination of Robert Barber's punk/hardcore background and Mary Pearson's classical bassoon training makes for some seriously mixed influences, and the layering of Pearson's emotive, often melancholic voice over Barber's inventive rhythms creates a unique and refreshing sound. Add seemingly infinite layers of additional production to the mix - bells, bird calls, found sounds, treated instruments, environmental recordings - and you have a complex, almost obsessively detailed sonic experience.
