TM Juke has been active on the funk/soul/hip hop/broken scene for a while, and his material seems to be going from strengh to strength. Whether touring as a DJ or with his 8 piece band, his unique blend of jazz perfectionism, raw funk, hip hop attitude and floor shaking broken boogie is a very effective recipe for a full dancefloor.
In a moment of unusual free time we managed to get the lowdown from the man himself, who also gave us this
exclusive mashup mix of his new album and
this video from his tour earlier in the year...
What would you say have been the biggest influences on your music?
Travel has a massive influence on my music for sure. Also playing live and playing with other musicians has a big effect. When you're playing in a group things really come to life. Mistakes can sound great and you learn faster because of the pressure!
What have been the high points of the tour so far?
Playing the Alice Russell "Pot Of Gold" album launch at the Scala London. We played as TM Juke & The Jack Baker Trio first with Andreya Triana and the crowd were ace! We then played a special one-off Big Band show with Alice, playing all the new stuff from the album (which I produced). Also playing the Fi Hi club in Leeds on a Sunday night. Great! 350 people on a Sunday night, partying hard!
What's on the cards for 2009? More touring? New releases?
More of all of that definitely. I'm set to finish the next album with The Jack Baker Trio by the end of February. I'm also in the process of starting to write and produce an album with Fanny Franklin (Orgone/LA, USA). And I have a new project called "Nekklace". Apart from that, lots of gigs! We will be doing some more big band shows with Alice in April as well!
What's your favourite drink?
Straight Whiskey... Glemorangie .. on the rocks!
